## History

### Beginnings

On October 25, 2024, Igor Oprządek wrote the first line of code of a hobby project called Meva Engine. The project was set aside and came back in April 2025, when he expanded it and renamed it MevaSearch.

The first version of the search engine was released on May 18, 2025. At that time it was developed by Ixavence, a Polish collective founded in 2025 by Wojciech Podczyc and Igor Oprządek.

In October 2025 the search engine moved to the MevaSearch.com domain and msX Guard protection was added to results.

### Changes to Google Programmable Search Engine

In January 2026 Google announced the end of free access to its full search index for developers. New Programmable Search Engines can search at most 50 domains, and existing ones must switch to another solution by January 1, 2027. The change hit independent search engine developers in particular.[1]

MevaSearch chose its own results infrastructure. On April 15, 2026 it launched its hybrid index: results come mainly from Brave Search and are topped up by its own WebAtlas index.

### WebOrbiton Team

In February 2026 the msX Guard technology became part of the WebOrbiton Team, and NetKrypton became its successor.[4] On March 30, 2026 MevaSearch joined the WebOrbiton Team. MevaSearch Premium launched in May 2026, and in June 2026 NetKrypton protection and the Mojeek index were added to results.

### Awards

## Technology

### Hybrid index

A web search engine is a system that collects information about web pages and lets users search it with queries.[2] MevaSearch combines its own independent WebAtlas index with results from Brave Search and Mojeek. It is not a metasearch engine, a service that only forwards a query to other search engines and collects their results.[3]

Results are ordered and deduplicated by SeagullXLogic, its own ranking engine, which runs on MevaSearch servers without AI. The search engine does not use the Google search API or Google AI.

### WebAtlas Index

WebAtlas Index is a Polish, independent, ad-free web index that powers MevaSearch. It is built by three crawlers:[7]

- **WebAtlasBot** fetches and updates pages,
- **WebAtlasDiscoverBot** discovers new addresses,
- **WebAtlasRssSitemapBot** reads RSS and Atom feeds and sitemaps.

Every domain in the index passes a security check in NetKrypton. Webmasters can submit and remove pages themselves.

### NetKrypton

NetKrypton is an independent Polish internet safety project by the WebOrbiton Team: a continuously updated database of phishing, malicious and fraudulent domains. It is the direct successor of msX Guard, rewritten from scratch.[4] In MevaSearch it checks results as they load and warns about dangerous sites before the user clicks. It is also available as an API and as a free self-hosted edition, and the VeloxisNet tool uses the same database.

### Artificial intelligence

AI features run on Claude by Anthropic. They include short summaries above results, which can be switched off, and the MevaSearch AI chat, which searches the web, remembers the conversation, cites sources and can analyze up to two screenshots or photos.

### Other own technologies

- **Zethal Framework**: its own framework that the search engine runs on,
- **PriviMetrics**: analytics with no cookies, no persistent identifiers and no IP-based location,
- **Publisium**: its own CMS.

## Privacy

MevaSearch is funded only by subscriptions. It shows no ads, sells no data and builds no user profiles, so everyone gets the same results for the same query. Data is stored on servers in Lithuania and France.

Other privacy features include removing tracking parameters from links, Referer control, an incognito link, hiding searches from browser history and CloakView.

## Features

The search engine has Web, Images, Videos, News, Links, Music, Podcasts and AI tabs. Instant answers include a dictionary, calculator, translator, unit and currency converter, weather, air quality, local time and an info panel.

It supports !bang shortcuts, search operators, Orbit custom ranking rules, ready-made lenses, add-ons, SafeSearch and Kids Mode. The interface is available in 19 languages.
